Background

Sudan ebolavirus has a lower fatality rate than Zaire (40–60%), but the absence of an approved vaccine makes outbreaks especially concerning. The virus first appeared in 1976 in Nzara, South Sudan.

The experimental Sabin cAd3-EBO S vaccine was deployed in 2022 during the Mubende, Uganda outbreak. Results are still being analysed.
